The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Teaser Arrives, Unveiling New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voices

Nintendo and Illumination shared the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. It was showcased in a special Nintendo Direct that centered on the soon-to-release cartoon movie.

The sequel to the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will send Mario to the far corners of the universe. In his journey, he meets a fresh princess character and a formidable new rival in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.

A Cosmic Adventure Drawing from Classic Games

Much like the Wii console classics that provide its foundation, Mario will leave behind the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. During his grand adventure, he will reunite with some well-known personalities, such as the Luma, a breakout star from the first movie.

Yet it looks like Mario and his sibling Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who reportedly wields metal-based powers. Notably, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not only concentrated on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also features references to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

Star-Studded Voice Cast Returns and Expands

The movie will see the return of the original voice cast, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to represent Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.

A Big Year for Mario

The upcoming Mario film is planned to debut near the 40th anniversary of the first Super Mario Bros. title. In addition to the movie, 2026 is shaping up to be a significant year for Mario and his companions.

Nintendo confirmed a set of three fresh titles officially announced for that year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Release Date Confirmed

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
