A 14-year-old boy was found dead just days following being falsely blamed of taking the cremated remains of a deceased baby during a break-in, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Discovery

The young boy's mother and father discovered his remains in his room at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Allegations Begin

The investigation heard how his mother got a message on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a individual asking if her son was her child. The message added: "Tell him thanks for burgling my flat."

In a testimony read to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the media, claiming her baby's remains had been taken in a burglary - a claim which was false.

Police Inquiry

An official inquiry from authorities later determined the alleged break-in complainant had "lied to police" and "it now appears that said property was never taken in the first place".

Media reports about the alleged stolen ashes attracted social media comments, and although the teenager was not identified in the posts, his parent said people "knew it was him".

The "social media content were really distressing", she said.

Mental Wellbeing Effect

She added that her son had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' opinions really mattered to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she commented, "especially when this was untrue".

Kai was arrested at home, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later released pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in contact, the hearing learned, but had failed to reached out to the family by the time of his death.

Isolation and Anxiety

His parent said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could feel like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the alleged burglary, she said her son told her he had entered the house because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the bathroom anytime he wanted, but refuted taking anything.

Online Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being harassed online after the allegations.

The proceedings learned that a 19-year-old urged Kai to kill himself.

She had no worries on the evening before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, loving" young man, and said her "family is totally shattered".

He had been "clearly hiding his worries", she stated, adding that he could not stand to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

School Reaction

The hearing heard from educational staff at the local secondary school.

On November 8th, she "heard some students discussing that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the discussion, the staff member said she rang the family's family landline and left a voicemail saying she had communicated to Kai about the allegations.

The proceedings learned his family said they did not receive that message.

Official Finding

Senior coroner informed the hearing he would await documents regarding what enhancements had been made to handling suspects with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent fatalities report.

Delivering a narrative conclusion, he said: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsupported accusations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old individual.

"Likely untruths were subsequently exaggerated and exaggerated through the platform of online networks.

"During 11 November, he was interviewed by the police and after his questioning he was released whilst inquiries proceeded."

The official concluded: "Exists no proof that the acts or failures of any organization caused or contributed to his passing and although it was the result of a personal action it is not possible to determine his purpose."
