Partial Collapse within the Big Apple High-Rise Results in Rubble
A section of a high-rise apartment building in New York City collapsed on Wednesday, creating one corner of the building transformed into a pile of rubble.
First Responders and Early Information
NYFD officials stated no immediate reports of casualties. Responders answered a call to a report of a gas explosion that triggered the cave-in of an trash chute in the 20-floor structure located in the Bronx borough.
The property is municipally owned residential units. Several attempts for comment went out to the public housing administrators.

Video footage from the scene shows a tall building with one side crumbled from the first level all the way to the uppermost floor. Recordings made by nearby residents showed a billowing dust enveloping the block right after the incident, which took place around 8:10 a.m..

NYPD said they got distress calls about a structural failure around 8 a.m. on Wednesday. The collapse occurred at the Mitchel housing complex.
“Upon arrival, first responders noted a partial building collapse,” authorities reported.
