Marnus Labuschagne Left Out from Australia's ODI Team to Face India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from Australia's three-game ODI series versus India, with high-performing Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw earning a unexpected inclusion.

Performance Issues Lead to Omission

The right-hander was left out from the ODI team following being dismissed for one in each of his two innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. He has a best innings of 47 in his most recent ten ODI innings.

The 31-year-old has featured in 68 one-day internationals and accumulated 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64, but will now work towards a Test recall ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Changes

Labuschagne has shown signs of a resurgence with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw made a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his ODI debut in the upcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

Renshaw has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also seeking a Test return as Australia search for a fix to their opening batting issues.

Pace Returns and Injury Updates

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after being rested since excelling for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the lead up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he hopes to heal from a back injury by the time to captain Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Strategy and Fixtures

Australia have named a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-match series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 sides after scoring a hundred in the last match against New Zealand to secure a 2-0 series win last week.
