Exploring a Unusual Steam Demo: Guiding a Turdy Character with the Goal to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have found numerous engaging independent titles. However, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game includes a character that is literally a piece of poop attempting to make its way to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is simple: you only need a one button to leap. Throughout numerous levels, encounter tough enemies and access a store to acquire customizations for your poop character.

Execute your jumps carefully, as a wrong move means beginning again. Bounce off bubbles to hurl your character to new heights, traverse fragile surfaces, and interact with buttons to reveal hidden paths. Gather UN-KOINS for buying challenging stages in which things intensifies.

Visually, the demo shows off neon level designs and catchy music score. The simple visual style featuring shifting abstract forms may remind players of classic titles like Earthbound.

While it's tough to recall previous releases where you control a dung character, video games have long featured toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, players make grenades from character excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as soil enrichment. Naturally, this theme shows up heavily in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Despite its silly idea, Unko Technica has already garnered notable awards, including winning at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is accessible at present on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to debut on PC this November.
