Ex- NFL Player Antonio Brown Enters Not Guilty Plea in Murder Attempt Trial
One-time National Football League wide receiver Antonio Brown is traveling to Miami to confront an attempted murder allegation stemming from a shooting that took place in May, as his attorney filing a not guilty response on his behalf.
Correctional documents in Essex, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was freed on Tuesday morning for his relocation to Florida. Brown, among the most famous figures in the National Football League, had relinquished extradition to Florida from New Jersey, where he was detained after being apprehended in the city of Dubai.
Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, said in an email that he has already filed a formal innocent plea to the murder attempt accusation. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as early as Wednesday early for a release session, Eiglarsh said.
According to his detention order, Brown is alleged of taking a pistol from a security staffer after a celebrity fighting bout in May and shooting a couple of bullets at a individual he had confronted with earlier. The reported individual, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, stated to police that one shot touched his neck.
Eiglarsh stated that Brown was merely protecting himself from Nantambu.
“The steps he was compelled to take were purely in defense against the claimed victim’s hostile actions. Brown was assaulted that night and behaved within his lawful entitlement to defend himself,” Eiglarsh stated.
Brown was not immediately detained because at first authorities did not consider Nantambu as a affected party. It only later in May that Nantambu provided a complete testimony about the event to authorities and pointed out Brown as the gunman, the document says.
From his digital posts, Brown had been staying in Dubai for a number of weeks. In a message after the altercation, Brown stated he was safeguarding himself because he was “jumped by multiple persons who attempted to steal my jewelry and cause physical injury to me.”
A level two murder attempt accusation in Florida carries a highest 15-year jail penalty and up to a $10,000 penalty in the case of a guilty verdict.
Brown has dealt with numerous judicial issues over the period. He earlier had been charged of assault of a vehicle operator, multiple domestic violence allegations, failure to pay family payments and other occurrences.
In a recent contest with the Buccaneers against the New York Jets, Brown removed his jersey, protective gear and accessories and exited the arena, causing his dismissal by the Buccaneers and practically concluding his NFL tenure.
Brown, who spent 12 years in the league, was an top-tier player who passed most of his time with his team. Throughout his career, Brown had nine hundred twenty-eight receptions for more than twelve thousand two hundred ninety-one yards, the twenty-eighth greatest of record. He was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection.
