Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging year, managing just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and finally splitting with long-term trainer Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is his initial championship following the Rome competition and first on a hard court from spring of the previous year.

Victory also signifies he has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one various competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is really nice," said tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

His defensive strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his skill to perform at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

The opponent defended four initial chances in a competitive third set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned victory with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
